Lisa Lachri has come a long way since she was a kid who was always sick. They weren’t aware that she had celiac disease so her immune system was very very bad. Being sick so often translated to being indoors drawing and coloring a lot. She spent enough time drawing that by the time she was in her teens she was above average in her drawing skills.
She taught herself to paint through trial and error. She was working full time at animal hospitals when one day on the way home from working a vaccine clinic, she needed to pick up a frame for a painting that she was delivering to an art gallery that night. She landed in Michaels in LaVerne Ca. They had a sign looking for art teachers. This is where she started teaching art classes in 1999.
These days Lisa spends her time creating paintings and drawings and making videos teaching and inspiring other artists through her 4 weekly videos on youtube and her weekly tutorials on Patreon. You can watch this video of hers before the show to see a sample of her work!
Lisa says "Learning what I did through trial and error, I have a slightly different view on art. For me, art has never been about some elitist idea of the “right” way to create. Instead, I see the value in art for art’s sake. Art can be just about anything you can imagine or enjoy creating!! I don’t care about what process, tools or technique someone uses to create something beautiful! It’s the end result that matters to me."
In addition to her art, Lisa has been a violinist for 30 years. She grew up playing in the Claremont Youth Symphony Orchestra, then played in the Claremont Symphony Orchestra for several years. You can hear her play violin on many of her speed paintings and drawings.
